Philips introduces patent licenses for Blu-ray Disc

Starting 2 April 2008, Philips introduced patent licenses for Blu-ray Disc media and hardward. The Dutch giant says it wants “to create clarity for companies that manufacture Blu-ray Disc products” and has therefore decided to introduce licenses for the use of Philips’ patents relevant for Blu-ray Disc.

This in anticipation of the future launch of a joint Blu-ray Disc license program, in which the patents of a number of companies are combined in one single license agreement.

Companies interested in entering into license agreements with Philips for the use of Philips patents in the manufacture and sale of Blu-ray Disc products are requested to contact Philips Intellectual Property & Standards. (www.ip.philips.com)
