The
DVD Association has announced the winners of the 2008 DVDA Excellence
Awards, presented at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.
This is the industry’s oldest DVD awards programme and the only
programme that is merit-based and judged by peers. This year for the
second time awards were presented to HD DVD and Blu-ray Discs as well
as DVDs.
As in previous years, DVDA Excellence Awards were presented to both
Content Owners and Optical Disc Developers.
2008 Content Owners Awards were presented to Walt Disney Studios Home
Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Home Video, HBO Home Video, MGM Home
Video, and Warner Home Video.
Developer Awards were presented to Gork Enterprises, Blink Digital,
Fogolabs, the UK's Richmond Studios, Germany's Imagion AG, Panasonic
Hollywood Lab, and Scope Seven.
A special award for 2008, the Innovator Award, was presented to Adobe
Systems for their Encore CS3 Authoring Application that allows for
a single interactive project to be output for Blu-ray Disc, DVD or
the Web.
The final award, the prestigious Facility/Individual Excellence Award
that recognizes the body of work created by a Facility, was presented
to Fogolabs. This is their second win in this category.
“The quality of the 2008 Excellence Award Winners once again
shows how the industry has really raised the bar on excellence in
optical discs”, says Bruce Nazarian, President of DVDA.
